meaning
In Hebrew, Merkabah translates to Chariot.  Some believe that the Chariots of Fire from the Bible were referencing the Merkaba.  If you break the word down further, "Mer" means Light, "Ka" means Spirit, and "Ba" means Body.  The energy field beyond our auric field is a Merkaba spinning at the speed of light. A Merkaba is essentially two tetrahedrons intersecting at the exact center.  The Merkaba represents divine energy, constantly spinning, harmonizing, balancing, flowing, and expanding.  It is said that through a healthy functioning Merkaba we can travel into any spiritual dimension.  Many ascended masters used their Merkaba to connect to higher realms of consciousness.
